So the new Sony Z series laptops finally can be CTO'ed with the 1920x1080 screen. I'm very close to buying one. The only concern I have is I will immediately be wiping the drive and installing linux. Is there TRIM support in any of the kernels in any of the major distros? (I usually just use kubuntu) Or if not from a distro, any way to get trim running?
I'm not too concerned about performance of the drive, I mostly use my laptop for programming. But I'd like to know destroy my raided drives. What are the options I have to prevent this? I don't even care if they're raided.

I believe the short answer is 'yes', but I can't remember the qualification and which kernel version the support for that started with....
Here's some reading on that re: Ubuntu: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/Specs/KarmicSSD

So the fact that the SSDs are raided in the Sony Z doesn't make a difference? I read somewhere that TRIM was working, but not through the raid controller. That very well could be outdated information though, the relevant thread is like 35 pages long.

It was my understanding that right now, TRIM won't pass thru a raid set up....period...but that they are working on it. That is the latest info I have....DELL tech support (elevated) confirmed this with me a few days ago.
