So, I use Rythmbox and the Adobe flash plugin for FF, but if I'm listening to some tunes in Rythmbox, and then try to open a YouTube video, it plays the video, although it seems glitchy, but there's not sound. However, if Rythmbox is not open, it plays sound fine. Anyone else have this issue?
TIA, pixelot![]()

Are you using ALSA, OSS, or PulseAudio sound server? The issue of only one program being able to use sound is usually caused by OSS because it doesn't support software mixing, however I think ALSA also has a bug that causes this problem. Can you try getting sound from both Adobe flash and another sound program to see if you still get no sound?
PulseAudio eliminates this shortcoming in the Linux sound system; I would recommend that you switch your sound to use PulseAudio only. -
If I recall correctly, PulseAudio has this same exact problem in Ubuntu 8.04 because of poor implementation. I have a link to a guide that fixes it but it's best to know what sound server he's using first.

I believe I'm using ALSA, or at least my Volume Control panel says HDA Intel (Alsa mixer). And by another sound program do you mean something other than Rythmbox, Bog? Because I've already determined that Rythmbox and Adobe Flash don't share sound. In fact, they've locked each other up and even crashed FF fighting over it.

I meant, does the same conflict occur when using other sound programs as well?

Ah. I'll check.

Alright, Calvin, I followed the guide, but sound still doesn't seem to work with Adobe Flash and other programs simultaneously. But it seems a little more stable, so...whatever.

Are you using Flash 10? Did you follow the other guide that I have linked in my Linux Switcher's Guide that deals with media and stuff?
