Has anyone found a fix for the sound problem on ubuntu..

sound only works through whatever is plugged into the audio out... doesn't work through a pci express sound card, usb speakers, or just through the laptop itself..

    anyone got suggestions?? thanks.

I'm using kubuntu ATM, but if I remember correctly, if you go to System Settings or something like that, and Sound, you should be able to select your soundcard from there.
Or it could be Administration -> Sound, I'm sorry I don't remember exactly.

What sound card do you have? It's possible that ubuntu doesn't have drivers out of the box for it.

Your USB speakers don't work? Try turning the computer on with them plugged in and open an audio file and see if it works.

Some people reported a similar problem and recommended closing all programs using sound but that should work better. Just in case..

Try the third sticky here. If still no luck, I suggest joining the forums and posting your question there. Good luck.

to get usb speakers working, run "asoundconf list" in terminal. you should get a list of available sound cards, which should include the usb speakers plugged in. then you have to run "asoundconf set-default-card ****" where **** is the sound card of choice.

I have done this to get my Logitech V20s working on my Ubuntu laptop. You may also have to use "alsamixergui" in order to get sound out of both speakers though. when i initially had them plugged in, i only could get sound out of one speaker. after running alsamixergui, i saw that the sound was set to 0 for one speaker, so i just changed the output sound so i got sound out of both speakers.
