    ...becuase I'm too lazy to reboot my computer and log into vista now :D

    I want to install steam so I can play counterstrike. I'm not going to use it for extreme gameing more for learning how to do it actually then to play the actual game(but i will lol)

    I don't know where to start, I have researched this topic on the google but I can't follow the tutorials becuase I'm a noob at ubuntu.

    Please help me

    I have wine on my computer

    Im running 64bit 9.04 ubuntu

    after you start IE do u download steam from regualr ubuntu firfox or from Wine IE?
    becuase in IE downlaod doesn't start and in firefox It says it can't find file when i run the command when the msi is on my desktop...

    when i hit open with WINE after i download it it starts up the installer lilke this:

    You can do it from regular FireFox. Make sure you use the correct caps - everything is case sensitive. You can also try right clicking the file and hitting open with Wine.

    Oh and a word of warning: Steam does not play well with Compiz (the "Extra" graphical effects). All the Windows will be transparent, so you want to disable Compiz when you play. You can also configure Wine to ignore the window decorations of Compiz that make it not work, but I don't remember how.

    do i just install it in c:/program files/steam?
    it said i can not install to root directory when i hit the install button

    So instead you're going to spend several hours getting steam working...

    A few things to note:

    1. I have always had anti-aliasing problems with my graphic cards, aka none.

    2. I don't know if it was ever fixed, but I don't believe voice chat works in any steam game.

    3. You'll probably get random crashes.
