This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved.     Friendly bump.
    My hard drive was affected even though it didnt list my model number.
    HDD was a ST9160821AS 160 GB.

    Followed the guide and it changed my cycle down to 0!

    Note that this problem, to a lessor extent, also exists in Vista/OSX. In the period I couldn't use Linux (stupid school network blocked Linux), the count still went up quite high. Similar problem is also reported on OSX. So, we aren't really sure if this is a problem. However, better safe than sorry, I guess. And HDD tend to be awfully stupid...
