Did anyone else notice in this movie Mark Zuckerberg was using Linux on his laptop at the end of the movie? DE? KDE 3.5.10 (supposed to be a few years ago but I wonder who made sure linux was on the lappy?) .....![]()
-
He was actually using it all throughout the movie.
-
Don't think too much, the reason was because it was and is still free.
Don't feel like paying either M$ or Apple. Or they refused to pay the producers to promote their warez so no free advertising.
-
i dont think facebook paid the producers for the movie as well but its prob the biggest advertisement they could want short of word to mouth
-
Mark Zuckerberg in a movie???
-
Well sony sure got some ad space in the movie.

Mark Zuckerberg is overrated....he's no Bill Gates or Steve Jobs, and when he came up with FaceBook MySpace already existed so it's not like he came up with something completely new. A little bit of luck thrown in there too
-
Steve Jobs is so over rated, he just managed to turned a lot of men on to him and controlled them with his magic stick.
Bill Gates is so over rated, he bought stuff because another company didn't show up.
-
Linus Torvalds is overrated...he just reverse engineered something that Bell Labs originally created that later became a deluted Minix.....LOL
-
No he isn't overrated for that.
He is overrated from taking code from Minix forking it to become Linux. -

That is false. -
MINIX is a Unix-like computer operating system based on a microkernel architecture created by Andrew S. Tanenbaum for educational purposes; MINIX also inspired the creation of the Linux kernel.
MINIX (from "mini-Unix") was first released in 1987, with its complete source code made available to universities for study in courses and research. It has been free and open source software since it was re-licensed under the BSD license in April 2000.
Unix was created by Bell Labs...blah blah
:
Since it began to escape from AT&T's Bell Laboratories in the early 1970's, the success of the UNIX operating system has led to many different versions: recipients of the (at that time free) UNIX system code all began developing their own different versions in their own, different, ways for use and sale. Universities, research institutes, government bodies and computer companies all began using the powerful UNIX system to develop many of the technologies which today are part of a UNIX system.
imo, he is overrated for that...
The internet started here too, but Al Gore had nothing to do with it....Al Gore is overrated by himself....LOL -
Erm it is true

You're reading that incorrectly, it's referring to application & toolchain software.
You don't fork a microkernel and get Linux. That's mental.
Reading material:
Groklaw - No Minix code in Linux Ever -- More Evidence -
Well he referenced Minix...
Anyway he is overrated. -
ALLurGroceries Vegan Vermin Super Moderator
He used Minix to bootstrap Linux. Minix was also the inspiration (because it sucked on 386) to create Linux. There is and was never any Minix code in Linux.
There is BSD code in windows. But that's a different topic.

It's a classic... if you don't like google here's an o'reilly link:
Appendix A - The Tanenbaum-Torvalds Debate
And a summary:
Tanenbaum?Torvalds debate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia -
I read the first page and browsed the second page. I get the general idea and Im glad I read what I read. As for the rest that will have to wait for when I get home as Im pretty sure reading an old newsgroup debate is not what my employer is paying me for.
-
It's pretty darn interesting...I couldn't quit reading it when I started....maybe I need to get a life....LOL
-
LoL yeah I was really getting into the read when I got this feeling I was being watched and sure enough I was. Granted he was watching all of us, I didnt want to take the chance and Ill finish up after work and class.
-
Thanks for that! This link is way better than mine, but google was the first source I could find and I didn't search any further because I'm not getting paid for spreading links to milestones of recent history either.

Getting back to the original post about Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook. If I had the chance I'd go back in time to 2001 (just to be double sure) and register all thefacebook and facebook domains, take as many screen shots and images of the current facebook back with me and put it on the facebook domains along with registering the company internationally, and the same with thefacebook (taken from original screenshots of marks version on the net) so that come the time mark decides to come up with the idea he'll find that oh dear someone else has already and owns the rights to the trademarks and domain names! ha! history is changed on a Major scale! Although I've used facebook since 2007, I don't like Mark Zuckerberg and I do believe he stole the idea and stalled the Winklevoss twins and their partner Divian on the ConnectU site and yes he is sooooooo overated! Oh yeah and just so he never makes it into the history books at all, I'd do the FaceSmash.com thing too before he came up with it, just to make double sure on that!

nothing like a little flame war and history mixed together
THEY ARE ALL OVER RATED!!!

I was going to post that, but was reading each post first. You took the words right out of my mouth!

Holy punctuation Batman!
