No thanks... The reason why I use Linux is to make it look, feel, and perform how I want it to. This totally just contradicts that.

No one's forcing you to use Gnome.
You don't like it use KDE, don't like that, use openbox, fluxbox, XFCE. Don't like those do it yourself. -
The dude had a point, a very good one. Heretofore, panel applets have been a ubiquitous component of linux desktops. Any development that might prohibit that use of applets will undercut the desktop experience for more than a few people.
Let's not get on each other's backs.
