Hi guys,
I've just installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my old Toshiba and used ndiswrapper to get my wi-fi card working there (Foxconn T60N871, 802.11b/g) - both got installed correctly without any errors. It finds all wi-fi networks in our home, but the problem is that it can't connect. The connection icon (a line going in a circle between two spots) shows some kind of activity in the upper taskbar, and then, after a short time, it stops connecting. The only wi-fi it connects to is my hp laserjet 100 printer, though I can't browse internet on that thing![]()
I've searched in many places, but couldn't find any solution that would be somewhat close to my situation.
Help appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Try a live CD . USB of 12.04 or later. That stuff will probably just work.

Oh, and by the way, it seems the notebook doesn't support usb booting, it only has hdd, fdd, network and cd/dvd options. -
I have a friend with a Toshiba and it couldn't only go up to 10.10 for a while. Recently put 13.04 on it and it's running great so give that a try if you can.

I've had a good experience using Lubuntu on my old HP nc 6000, I was able to get everything working from installation with no additional drivers loaded, and it ran considerably faster than xp and a decent bit faster than ubuntu as well.
If you don't mind losing access to some of the standard ubuntu interface and programs, Lubuntu is a good fit for older laptops.

Well what happened with the Toshiba is that apparently there was a big collection of kernel hacks to make it work on Toshiba's broken BIOSes. So somewhere around 11.04 they got taken out.
Somewhere around 12.10 or 13.04 some fixes were put into the kernel to let it work on Toshiba laptops again.
