I have an Acer Aspire 5050-3785, and when I try to install the Bio-Linux on it (Ubuntu 8.04) the installation process just stop. I try the same for the DNA-Linux (SLAX), and occurred the same. So, what's the point?

Have you tried using the alternate cd?

When I used the alternate cd the installation loops with a series of bug reports, like this:
    [XX.XXXXXX] BUG:soft lockup-CP#0 stuck for 11s! [modprobe:1009]
where XXX are ramdom numbers that change with the ongoing of the loop.
Someone already told me that I need to informe the developers, but I just can't believe this is the only escape for that problem.

Your best bet is to try upgrading, (or downgrading), your BIOS to see if you can then install Linux correctly. There are plenty of threads around regarding ACPI problems with your laptop that might be inhibiting your installation, like this post in this thread at the Ubuntu users forum, and this post suggesting a, (complex), fix for the problem too.

But definitely try upgrading first, (and then downgrading next), your BIOS to see if you can get through a successful Linux install. I also recommend installing the most current Linux version you can. For example don't install Ubuntu 8.04, but instead try 8.10. BTW, a NBR forum user posted here, in this thread, that they were successful in installing Linux on their 5050, you may want to ping them and ask what version of BIOS they're using, what Linux distro, etc.

    Good Luck..
