I get the start screen come up then it loads a bunch of stuff with alot of I/o errors showing up while going throughout the install....then it stops at a place where I can enter help and get some options however I dont know what to do then...
any ideas?
-
Umm....we need some of the errors?
It could be a bad burn or a bad iso though. -
thats what I was thinking too
-
i used windows to put the image on the disk
downloaded from mints website -
Yes but the download could be corrupt.
And what do you mean you used Windows? Windows doesn't have an .iso burner? -
Yes I know I could have a corrupted download, I used RAR to open the ISO and transfered it to a disk
-
No wonder, that's your problem, burn it properly with something like BurnCDCC.
-
Ok, I will try that....should it load up like a windows based install?
or do i have to enter various codes etc? -
What are you asking exactly?
-
When you check the MD5sum of the ISO on disk, it's OK?
An easy way to check is with Hashtab for instance.
edit; You can also use ISOburner or IMGburn, both are free and easy to use.
Make sure to burn at a low speed (max 2*) to avoid errors.
Cheers.
Read the PDF and you'll know exactly what to expect and what to do. -
Will in install like windows where you just sit back and watch it install for the most part. or is there more to it?
btw...thanks a million Thomas for helping me out
total Linux noobie here.. -
Just burn the iso, reboot and the CD should boot up to the Linux Mint Desktop, just click install and enter all the required information, once it's done reboot and you should be able to boot into both LinuxMint and Windows.
No problem, glad to help -
Rock on,
I will get to that tonight while installing programs on another computer. -
Thomas I got mint up and running....
very interesting. works great on the older machine. however, I am having trouble using my network adapter card. its a motorola WN825GP
any ideas.
it would not connect the driver automatically -
Is it one of those through USB?
-
No its one through the pc slot on the side of the book
-
You can try using ndiswrapper( http://sourceforge.net/projects/ndiswrapper/
It's included in Mint and uses the Windows .inf file to make your wireless work. -
Thanks again,
I will try that when I get home.
