    UK Dell owners... Windows refund information

    I documented my Windows refund process - someone else has also had joy with them.

    I always buy my laptops OS'less.....so basically, that's how you ended up? Am I reading correctly? If so, it's a great post :D thanks

    ^Aye. Couldn't buy one without an OS, so had to take Vista pre-installed. Dell refunded me for it after a couple of messages. :)

    You got that much for refund? Damn, here home prenium OEM is $115 (~55 pounds) so Dell pays them like 5 pounds.

    I know of one guy in the US who got a refund, $20

    I started buying custom laptops w/out an OS too.

    I had triedd this (in US) for my dell precision laptop two years back. The CSRs refused saying that my XP pro came "free" with the laptop.

    Ask them if they get the software free from MS. If they don't, then there has to be a monetary value to the software. This cost is always passed on to the consumer buying the machine, it's common sense.
