Ok, I've had this problem before and it never got solved since I just moved on to another machine. I need this machine now and I CANNOT remove the current Windows partition.
What I know:
- Ubuntu will not see ANY partitions from the live installer. (x64)
- My BIOS is set to Legacy, not UEFI mode.
- Prior to installing Server 2008 R2 the disk was completely wiped. Clean. Then re-partitioned.

What am I missing here? Is there an issue with Ubuntu's installer on AF drives? Also, this disk is formatted for standard NTFS with no UEFI partitions.

This post contains a solution to a similar issue. partitioning - Ubuntu installation does not recognize drive partinioning - Ask Ubuntu
-
sudo fixpart /dev/sdb
Also, try using the gparted program included in the live session. Maybe it will have better luck than the ubuntu installer.

Yeah, does gparted or this command show the partitions?
Do you actually need any partitions or are you trying to just wipe the disk? If you want to wipe it, try writing a new partition table. -

So...
I got a license for VMWare Workstation from where I work today. It actually runs better in the VM than it did under wubi.
I'm going to try gparted and see what it says. I'm curious.
