Over the last couple of years, I have had my share of trials and tribulations w/ getting Linux to run on machines of various ages, shapes and qualities.
I recently picked up a Vaio FX-370 (1ghz PIII/512mb RAM) to refurbish.
I have to say that this machine booted every Live Distro I threw at it flawlessly. Ok, ALMOST flawlessly. There was a touchpad issue where it would "tap" when it shouldn't, which frustrated me. The touchpad issue was fixed with a little edit to the xorg.conf file though once I finally settled on Ubuntu as my distro.
I wanted to share this, because this is a machince that can be found fairly cheap nowadays, and it has plenty of pep left in it to run Ubuntu.
I am still testing out the suspend/hibernate stuff, but so far, no issues w/ audio (recording and playback) or video.

Excellent...keep us updated on the suspend/hibernate stuff, as well as any other issues you run into.

Yeah, please do tell us how the hibernate/suspend stuff goes. I'm using Ubuntu Feisty with Beryl installed, on a nVidia Go7600. I'm a complete Linux newbie, and I haven't been able to get hibernate or suspend to work. I'm looking forward to your experiences!
