I tried to install Ubuntu 7.10 for AMD64 and EMT64 systems. Using normal and safe boot, the kernel is loaded an error message is thrown and the screen blacks out. I attempted the install multiple times and tried to use the pause button to freeze the output so I could write down the error but never could hit it at the right moment before oblivion. Could someone tell me how to correct this so I can install ubuntu?

yeah, your problem looks similar to what happened to my friend's toshiba lappy once when we tried to install ubuntu on it. seeing as how i can't diagnose your problem since you have no verbose for me to analyze, i'd suggest you try the ubuntu alternate CD for amd64 based systems. it's pretty much a text install method of ubuntu 7.10

The best suggestions I have are to use NOACPI and NOAPIC as kernel arguments when booting. There's a way to edit the commands when starting, I believe. I can't remember offhand, though. Google for "linux kernel noacpi" and you should get plenty of info on it.

I would recommend the 32bit version for ease of use also, but I don't want to get into that
i.e. you're going to have plugin' problems with FF64, etc...

So take anything I say with a grain of "I'm a nut and do things sane people shouldn't".
