I did a clean install of 9.04 on my laptop last week (specs in sig) and at first everything ran fine (as far as I know). I ran the updater and updated everything it told me to. So far I've mainly just used firefox and played around with configuring conky. I tried installing the ATI driver and for some reason it was getting freezes so i uninstalled it.

Now this week I'm getting constant freezes and the system becomes unresponsive to input. At first I thought it was a total OS freeze, but I had conky running where I could see it and it showed the system running normally. Then I noticed I actually could access the system using keyboard so the problem seems to be both the bluetooth mouse and touchpad inputs becoming non-functioning. (keyboard input works fine).

So the question is, are there specific logs or log entries I can check that may give a hint of the problem? I tried searching the ubuntu forums, but didn't find anything helpful. Any other ideas on how to fix?

If you're using Gnome you can see your logs with gksudo gnome-system-log, they are in /var/log/messages and /var/log/syslog for the main system and /var/log/Xorg.0.log for X

Check for any messages about HAL or bluetooth, psmouse, synaptics, etc. Hope this helps.

I get a bit of a hang between logon screen and desktop, and I think that's the gfx server; also, videos freeze the application for a certain amount of time, while the screen flickers. But I don't know if that's related to your probs?

Do a google search for EnvyNG. Its an awesome little tool that will do everything you need to install the latest drivers. MAIN note, once you use that you cant install video drivers any other way until you uninstall it first. Very easy to do, he has great instructions on his web page.
