For some reason, after an hour or so, the CPU usage on my ubuntu gets more and more. It's strange, though. If I only open up Chrome it will keep getting worse and worse even if I close chrome. It will eventually make it's way up to 50% or so. I reboot and its fine.

So this cpu high utilization happens only when you run chrome?
Not much to be seen from the top screenshot ...
Does this happen too if you boot to runlevel without X ? -
Oh, no I was just using chrome as an example. I could turn it on and let it sit idle and CPU usage would go up. There isn't a single process using a lot but total usage is 24% which is a lot for these atom processors.
How do I boot to runlevel without x? Wouldn't that get rid of the GUI? -
Run the system monitor app and view all processes. There must be something top isn't showing you like a zombie process.
