I have downloaded Ubuntu DVD and burnt it using Nero... but after burning and verifying data, it shows 0 bytes on the dvd and its of no use watsoever.
however i have noticed that Alcohol 120% can read the dvd and copy data from it. I have wasted 5 dvds trying to get a working solution but failed. I tries different versions of Nero also but no use :(. i tried it with both edgy eft and breezy...

can somebody tell me wat to do...

When I burned my copy I used a CD-R (fits Ubuntu perfectly and much cheaper to waste if something goes wrong like in your case), and I used ImgBurn (I'm sure whatever image burner you use should be fine too) to burn the ISO file.

Try using a CD-R or CD-RW, they have always worked for me. Also give ImgBurn a try I believe that is what Ubuntu recommends that you use. There is the possibility that your CD drive might not be working properly though.
Other than that just burn the disk set your BIOS to boot from the CD drive and you should be set.

ImgBurn works well. You probably burnt it as data and not as an image. That's what I did the first couple times before I realized my mistake. http://www.imgburn.com/
It is what the Ubuntu How-TO recommends.
