I am trying to install Ubuntu on my laptop that has an existing Vista install. From what I have read so far, Ubuntu seems to be very install-friendly and should be very straight forward with trying to do so. So when I restart the computer with the Ubuntu CD in the drive, I get the load screen and choose the first option to just load Ubuntu onto the RAM. It loads and crunches for a while, getting all the statuses etc, until I see my webcam light on and then finally the CD drive stops loading and the screen just remains on a blank screen until I reboot again.... Any ideas of what may be causing this? I am attempting to install the newest Ubuntu 7.10.
Thanks!

i guess you chose the first option: you could try the ubuntu's official forums. They usually have solutions to each notebook problems on ubuntu. if not, little bit complicated but go with the alternate install cd

Ubuntus CDs are very touchy, that happened to me too. basically I just downloaded it again and burned it at 4x speed. I don't know why its so touchy to speed, but other then that, ubuntus great

Also, do an install using the text-based installer (you can download the ISO -- and I think they call it the "alternative" installer). The LiveCD didn't run on my U3S.

I guess that the problem is the BIOS. I have 4GB of RAM and Linux didn't work with BIOS 205 [or earlier]. After I upgraded to BIOS 300 everything works as should.
