...and I'm not sure how it did it. When I started up I got:
and that's it. Once I got
with that exact (mis)spelling. As Ubuntu's Grub bootloader was my primary bootloader, I couldn't even get to Vista's bootloader to start up Windows.
But I have no idea how I caused this error. The previous time I'd started up I'd been in Vista using Windows Media Player, Paint, and Notepad (regular text files, not system). Everything seemed fine at that point.
My bootloader structure was Grub, with a Vista/Longhorn option that, when chosen, started up the Vista bootloader. A friend more familiar with Linux than myself said Linux had bootloader problems relatively often compared to Windows; perhaps it was a bad idea to have Grub before the Vista bootloader?
A reinstall of Vista fixed the problem (without causing any data loss as I've left a few GB for extra Vista installs thanks to Vista problems), but at this point I certainly don't want to put Grub as my primary bootloader again. I may leave Ubuntu installed, but if the bootloader gets corrupted this often I'm not sure that will work. Would a Vista --> Grub option structure be stable? If I have to reinstall Ubuntu every five days to keep Grub working, it's not worth the effort.
Other than this rather non-minor problem (which puts Ubuntu's stability, at a total crash in five days, below Vista's), I was beginning to rather like Ubuntu. But it's a bit too large a problem to put up with this often.

error 22 means that grub can't find it's settings, wich means that your linux partition only or the whole partition table as been trashed or grub just acting up... You can use the vista bootloader instead of grub but you'll need to add ubuntu in it in order to use it..
EDIT: There you go, you'll find all the instruction here -
you could try a different boot loader such as the GAG boot loader, i had to use it when my friend had troubles with his boot loader and i was able to boot into an operating system (linux or vista) and fix it from there.
