Hey,
After some very bad luck with linux that all had somethin to do with my HDD and Partitioning i have got very careful with it, also because everything is running fine under XP.
The ubuntu cd(install and live) starts correctly and i see the desktop. Then i click on the install symbol and when it comes to the Partition Manager the first problem occours. First, i resized my windows c:\ so i have a total of 20 GB unpartionated HDD space for linux. After it had finished a dialog popped up that had told me that an error occured and that future actions may not progress corectly.
I had told the partition manager to make a new partition of the new space before as the 2nd task ( *1I forgot i need to make a 2nd for swap). That has been cancelled automatically.
(The partition really had been resized as specified, i had looked it up in windows after)
Btw. 2 visible partitions c:\ and d:\ are marked as FAT32 in windows XP, but in linux they are NTFS?!
Anyhow, I then created a EXT3 partition for linux (see *1)
Then i progressed and clicked ok, the manager told me that i havent had created a swap partition so i clicked back (or similar) and sadly i had to refill all the info like name, time etc but nevermind.
So i tried to make 2 partitions out of the 20 GB disk Space. It told me, that there are no more than 4 primary partitions allowed. I have been told to delete the linux partition (so i did) and then create an extended partition, but in the 'new partition'-dialog there is only 'Primary' chooseable from the dropdown menu.
The partitions are somewhat: 2 GB(no idea...), 40 GB(c:\), 25 GB(d:\), 10 GB(the asus linux partition for the music player so you can listen to music if the notebook is not on power)
I have been told to then delete a Primary partition, but that pribably can't be arsed because:
XP works and too risky to play with it, also the 2 partitions are fine, c:\ for programs and XP of course and d:\ for music, media and non installable programs
I always have bad luck with linux![]()

I had a similar problem with getting that error after resizing. After resizing I made a primary for ext3 for linux and then made the rest extended. I was then allowed to make the rest of the partitions logical in the extended part. For some reason I couldnt make just one primary for linux in the extended partition. Anyway, It works really well now.

I solved it using partition magic... (what irony
)
Unfortunately i had to add a window boot entry in grub manuelly, but that wasn't much of a problem, god save irc.
So now im going to explore linux step by step.
