unless the card is brand new it should be supported, ati has been known for lack of driver support though. i know a couple of people who got t61p's who use windows mostly because of crap ati drivers (couldnt get displays on external monitors working; one uses ubuntu while on the road but windows at his desk)

No, he's talking about his T61p. Have you installed fglrx (catalyst)? I believe Ubuntu comes with an easy way to do this. If you have, and it's still not working, I'm afraid your only recourse might be to wait. The Mobility FireGL V5700 is new hardware, so support might still be in development.

When i installed it it mentioned something about the fglrx drivers being available in the notification menu but I opted not to install it since the integrated gfx card is fine for my needs and saves a lot of battery life.
