Ubuntu Unity is dead: Desktop will switch back to GNOME in 2018.
Starting next year, the default desktop environment for Ubuntu will be GNOME rather than Unity.
Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth says the change will start with the release of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS in April, 2018.

xD
Seems that Canonical's "not invented here" syndrome isn't working out too well for them....
Speaking of which, I wonder what this means for the Mir project. -

Sad to hear about the phones/tablets. But I support the return to Gnome, because I think it is a genuinely wonderful desktop environment. Now that I think about it, this is my 10 year anniversary as a Gnome user!

I am glad to see the Unity Interface go away. I never liked it.

Never a fan but not sure I like it just going away. I would much rather hear everyone with a Distro is agreeing to just one package manager.

killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
IMO, Gnome 3 is as bad as Unity...
