Comeon at least it looks better than BROWN.
It is beginning to look like OS X + Brown Icons.

It totally looks similar to the default OS X theme to me. I like purple, it's probably a step in the right direction, a bit easier on the eyes.

    I'm liking it!

EDIT: I know Apple's probably patented the hell out of the specific order of the window control icons when they are placed on the left side of the window, but I'm gonna be confused every time I go to close a window and it maximizes due to the placement of the close button as last. Muscle Memory FTL!

Thank god for Nodoka-silver tarballs (+ echo icon set).
Still, purple is somewhat less hideous than brown.

Before this there was already a lot of icon rip off.
I don't think you can patent icon can you?
Especially when the bluetooth symbol is universal.
I don't mind the icon ripoff personally.

Okay, purple. Not that bad, now let's see some proper fonts. But that would be a CHANGE and it probably will never happen unless i start my own distro at some point. :p

It's not whether it's allowed or not, it's the image it gives them. I wouldn't be caught dead with that top panel.

    Okay...maybe that's putting it a bit strongly. :p

I think that panel is nice.
Since Karmic the icons are simplified which IMO is better.

Oh, it definitely needed a more elegant look, but because it *is* a Mac rip-off (no matter whether it's legal or not), I wouldn't be caught dismembered in a muddy ditch...well, let's just say I'd prefer not to use that theme. ;)

I don't mind those icons. Karmic offers something similar and I've gotten used to them.

    I still prefer brown though.

Once I get my laptop I'm throwing on an ubuntu copy on my secondary HDD. Definitely will avoid anything reminiscent of OS X. I hate OS X so much that I use windows on my macs ^.^

Eh? Strange... it's usually the other way around :)

On topic though, I've been an Ubuntu user since '05 and I must say, this is going to be a bit easier on the eyes. The brown was starting to get annoying and boring.

Wonder if it's still going to be small to install ...

It's just a change in font, and theme, they also removed stuff like gimp, so the install might even be smaller than before.

I know this a little off-topic, but why start a new thread when I can ask a question regarding the topic being discussed here. Anywho, is it possible, as of yet, to install Ubuntu 10.04 in Wubi? Just a question, if not, doesn't matter, I can wait til the Final.

Not that there is anything wrong with commenting on it, however, I can not imagine something that matters so little to me as what color the original desktop ships with! I mean it is very easily changed.

As a new Ubuntu user, I would be a lot more interested in hearing the improvements this version comes with.

Despite the obvious fact that its pulling UI designs off Apple, I like it.

But Ubuntu developers better be sure that its legal.

I would prefer more transparency! And for goodness sake, allow me to move the window buttons (my family loves the "X" button) to the right side a la Windows (via a menu). They may revolt otherwise...

I could only imagine what shananigans they are coming up with for the right side of windows. Maybe it could be a "press me to rule the world!" button. Or maybe a little more rationally they could use it sort as a notification area or toolbar. Say, if you have rhythmbox open and a some play, stop, pause, buttons show up on every window header for quick access. My two cents :)
