Hi, i'm trying to install Ubuntu on my laptop with a existing windows xp parition that takes up my entire hard drive.

the first time i tried, the first option to resize the xp parition was not available but once i rebooted the live cd a 2nd time it was available.

but now i'm having problems with the actual parition. if i select that option it gives me an error saying that:

"An error occurred while writing the change to storage device.

    The resize operation is aborted"

note that i didnt make any preparation prior to trying to parition/install it. do i need to defrag the windows xp parition first? after googling through a few sites, i'm not sure if that is needed only for the first parition option.
