This isn't really a big deal and it's just one of those quirky things and I was wondering if someone knew what happened. If not, it doesn't affect the utility of it any so it's not really a problem.

But what happened is I installed the KDE and XFCE desktops for my Ubuntu install so I would have the different options if I wanted to play around with one or just felt like using something different. It all went over flawlessly and today I installed a bunch of updates that prompted me to restart. On restarting, it was shutting down as Kubuntu rather than Ubuntu and booted the same way. My splash screen is blue now too. lol

Like I said, it's not really a big deal outside of the fact that I like Orange better than blue but I was just wondering what caused it.

Kubuntu is the name of the Ubuntu variant with KDE instead of GNOME. When you installed KDE it probably changed the name for you automatically

Yeah, but I installed Xubuntu(XFCE) after Kubuntu and it didn't change it. And my default session is still Ubuntu so I don't know why installing the KDE desktop would have changed what it did.

Yea I noticed that happened when I installed the Kubuntu desktop, it really bugged me so I just did a clean install of Ubuntu.

You need to go into your bootsplash.conf or something like that and swich it to use the ubuntu bootsplash instead of the Kubuntu one.

Okay, I figured it out now. Here's what I did:

    linux:~$ sudo update-alternatives --config usplash-artwork.so
    Password:

There are 3 alternatives which provide `usplash-artwork.so'.

    Selection Alternative
    -----------------------------------------------
    1 /usr/lib/usplash/usplash-default.so
    *+ 2 /usr/lib/usplash/kubuntu-splash.so
    3 /usr/lib/usplash/xubuntu-splash.so

Press enter to keep the default[*], or type selection number: 1
    Using `/usr/lib/usplash/usplash-default.so' to provide `usplash-artwork.so'.

I did not like the icon set so I went back to gnome, I know you can change the icon set in KDE, but I did not want to bother.

lol. Must not have been too much partiality for the KDE over Gnome then I guess. ;)

What do you mean by that.

Well I do not like how plain Ubuntu is, Kubuntu is to... how do I say it, toyish. I am sure it could be customized to work for me, but it was not worth the additional 512mb, as my 30GB HD is getting rather full with two OS' and video editing going on.

Gnome is not plain at all once you customize it a little bit. I like to customize everything I can. :D

I have both my taskbars transparent and I've changed my login screen. But I've been messing around with another photo and I think I'm gonna make my own login screen.
