The card should work if you install the nvidia-glx-new package. I assume that you're trying to install Feisty, AKA 7.04

Feisty is the current stable edition of Ubuntu.

What Pita is saying is right. Everything on that notebook should be supported out of the box without issue.

You should install/enable nVidia drivers on ubuntu 7.04 by

Go to System->Administration->Restricted Drivers Manager and enable the nvidia driver.

If restarting X does not work, then reboot.

There are definitely situations where restarting X is not enough. Last time I used fglrx on my laptop (a while ago), going from the Xorg ati driver to fglrx required only that I restart X but going from fglrx to ati required a reboot because the fglrx driver would leave the video card in a state that the ati driver did not like at all!

Very true. The reason why is so is because "restarting X" may just be doing nothing - you have to tick the option to restartX in the Login Window menu of Ubuntu to actually killX + restart instead of just getting a login window.

I know that. In a previous post, you said "Restarting X should do it. Cntrl+Alt+Backspace", so you've defined "restarting X" as hitting Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace kills X, therefore you've defined "restarting X" as "killing X". I'm saying that "restarting X" as you've defined it, that is, hitting Ctrl-Alt-Backspace or "killing X" is sometimes not enough. In some situations, no amount of ticking boxes, killing X, loading and unloading modules does anything. You just need to reboot because the previous drivers left the graphic card in a bad state.
