It sounds like it somehow has your graphics configuration wrong. If you can go to console mode, edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and put it to the resolution of your laptop screen. It sounds like the liveCD detected it fine, but the actual install didn't? I'm not sure entirely. You should also be sure to check out the Ubuntu forums, as they've got lots of knowledgable linux goons who love helping (and know a lot)

    Thanks!
I have been searching in so many web pages and found two options:
1: Insert this line Option "MonitorLayout" "LDVS,AUTO" in xorg.conf
2: Boot up the Live cd in Safe graphic mode

I'm not sure that these options would work or not, but I'll try first the second option and if it doesn't work try the first option.

My question is, if it runs in safe graphic mode I could install ubuntu?

    Heya people,

Yer seems I have a problem myself...

I have just put ubuntu on my computer on the second hard drive. I installed it and rebooted the computer. it asks which operating system i want to use and i choose ubuntu. it starts to load up then it says something about the greeter application not working. so i click ok, then it asks for my login so i put that in along with the password then it comes up with my login name and some other random symbols with a flashing space next to it as if i should put something else in. but i havent a clue what to put in. i need to get it running as soon as possible so any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

That's a very strange error. Did you do anything special on the install? What do you mean "it comes up with your login name"? What is it? Is it a black screen with white characters? A console prompt? Something that looks like this?:
    Code:
    david@data:~$
If so, then it seems X has crashed on you. You need to (at that prompt):
    Code:
    sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
And then reconfigure your display settings more than likely.
