I can't run any kind of programs which require admin privileges. When I try to run synaptic through gnome, it asks for my password, I enter it and nothing comes up. However, I can run these programs through terminal with sudo ....

Anyone have this problem before and know what to do? Or just know what to do?

What version of Ubuntu are you running? I know there used to be glitches where gksudo wouldn't work correctly back in the days of Breezy Badger, but I haven't used GNOME since then.

Now I just use APT from the command line, so I don't really know how it works in KDE either.

If you are using Hardy then i suggest you poke around for some information on this, it might help you to take a look at the known hardy bugs thread at UF.
