I am trying to connect my HP 8460p with ati video card to my TV.

My TV is a 1080p Samsung (for some reason my computer things it is a Samsung Electric 7")

But the only configuration I get get is mirror. Every time I try to use the TV as an extended display I get an error.

The 3 drivers I have tried:
    Built in beta one:
Lots of issues, computer screen gets crazy lines.

    Built in Option 2:
    Cant extend display

    ATI catalyst
    Same issue as option 2.

    Any ideas?

I am not that experienced with Ubuntu so keeping it simple is good for me.

    Edit: 12.04 LTS

Hm, no takers. What version of fglrx are you trying to run, and what video card is it?

    Run this in a terminal:
    Code:
    sudo tail -f /var/log/syslog
And watch it as you plug in the monitor. See if there is anything that mentions problems with the EDID.

Sorry it took so long to reply.

The ATI software broke the entire OS so I had to do a fresh install. I dont know what version of the fglrx I am running... How would I check that?

It's been a while since I used it, but I think you can tell from fglrx-control. If you installed it from a package:
    Code:
    dpkg-query -W fglrx
Also, what video card is it?

I tried with different both capitalization's.

I remember seeing the removal of the fglrx when trying to do it the first time. But the steps I found online were no where near as long as those.

Where did you install the drivers from?

If it was a package, try --show to find the version (no idea why -W won't work for you but it doesn't matter):
    Code:
    dpkg-query --show fglrx
    or
    Code:
    dpkg-query -s fglrx
    or
    Code:
    dpkg-query -l fglrx
Any of the above will show you the version of your installed fglrx package.

I figure a screen shot would be better than me trying to explain it.
