Anyone able to help out, I have no idea where to go with this, it seems that blue and red are swapped over when I play videos, I tried installing Xine but it doesn't seem to work at all (I open it, it asks about preferences, it closes again) I've tried MPlayer but I get an error every time I start it...

Anyone got any ideas? I'vereally got no idea where to go with this, the one problem with Ubuntu I'm not sure where to turn yet.

What version of Ubuntu are you using? I had that problem with AVIs in Edgy. I used VLC for those troublesome files.

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install vlc

I THINK I'm using Feisty, however I'm really not sure how to tell, the boot menu lists it as kernel 2.6.20-15-generic?

    Does that help?

Kernel 2.6.20 means you're running Feisty. Are you running the gstreamer plugins or the Xine plugins? And have you tried installing VLC?

Um, I think I got gxine working (for some reason when I start it without a file to view it just quits) but it doesn't show anything (LOL) Movie Player (Gstreamer I think) works but shows wrong colours, the other one Mplayer (if I recall) works fine but seems to have very limited options.

You typically only have one set of codecs and plugins installed at a time. If you have gxine installed, you're probably using the xine backend. But the easiest way is to go the "Add/Remove Programs" applet and search for "codecs." It will tell you which ones are installed there.

A lot of times that's due to the output device, such as not using Xv, or something similar. Check your settings. Your codecs should be ok, if the movie plays at all.

Did you get the appropriate video card drivers and install them? Colors are messed up for me if I don't install appropriate graphics drivers.
