When I was using Windows XP, I used a program called WallWatcher to analyze everything going in and out of my router. Yet, I can't seem to find a Linux equivalent for this program. I posted this question on the Linux Mint forums, and I'm posting it here to see if anybody has any suggestions...Thanks.

Well, I'm not real familiar with WallWatcher, I've never even heard of it before, but I checked out the home page for it, and it looks pretty cool. I think I'll give it a try on my XP system.
From what I can tell, I think you may want to check out a program called Snort.
Here's a link.

I was able to figure out how to get WallWatcher working via Wine and it does seem to be fully functional and all, but I would rather prefer if there was a native Linux program that was similar to WallWatcher...When I was using XP, WallWatcher could start up and start logging as soon as you were logged on, on Linux, WallWatcher has to be run as root to receive connections to the syslog server, which would mean having to always go to the terminal and use root everytime I want to run the program after rebooting. -
Can't you just change permissions for the program?

I'm still quite new to the Linux world so I don't know if I'm doing something wrong. -
I know there's something to do exactly what you want, I just can't tell you what it is right now....been a long time. Keep searching, it's out there (somewhere

I'll keep my eye open....

Also, you may reconsider google as a resource. It has lots of neat links if you search for "linksys log linux". -

I did search for that, and I did come across a few options that looked promising (especially that JLinksysLogger program)...But after searching through google, and even searching thru SourceForge for "linksys", unfortunately, 'til I find me a really similar native program, I think I'm gonna stick with running WallWatcher thru Wine for now; I actually couldn't get any of the potentials I found on SourceForge to work right, or in some cases even start up...
I also figured how to get WallWatcher to run automatically without setting the program or Wine thru SUID; I just edited my sudoers file thru visudo (I'm learning so much, lol) and set it to run the program without prompting for the password. I assume that would be safer than setting a SUID?
