    I will need it haha.

There's no way I would even try to use Windows Vista or Windows 7, and the 1737 doesn't have XP drivers....leaving Ubuntu as the only viable option.

On a side note, Ubuntu 9.04 installed without any trouble. I haven't had time to test everything, but it feels pretty smooth right now.

Glad to hear it. To be fair, Windows 7 is pretty nice if you have a lot of RAM. The DRM still annoys the heck out of me, but it makes a nice video game loader ;)

I installed Windows 7 and really liked it. However, that was the only time I've ever booted it. It's been there in my HD now for a month, unused. :p

Three key words are 'video - game - loader -. That's exactly what I'll be using it for, it's been bought and paid for for a couple of months now. I've got the new Starcraft II preordered also :p

Reply #2 makes me think they have a premade response for this, complete with question marks in place of apostrophes.

Reply back stating that the software EULA says to contact the manufacturer for a refund if you do not agree to it.

This really should not be an issue...

Look up ChrisM at Dell Community Forums, he might be able to help you out. I swear that guy fixes everything.

Well, you could return the whole thing and order from a vendor that doesn't bundle any software... just a thought.

No way you can get a refund for the individual bundled software. There are lots of other ways to make money.

I just spent $1,000 on a laptop and it's accessories. I would have gladly paid $100 for XP, but NOT Vista.
If they continue to push back I might just settle for the Win7 upgrade....research tells me that it's not so bad after all....*sigh*

Make sure you read Dell's EULA carefully. Lenovo edited their's recently to include that if you want a refund for bundled software, you need to return the entire unit.

I read the EULA. It still says contact the supplier, there was no word of full returns. Judging by the responses, the "techs" are just going by prewritten responses.

Would be awesome if you get the refund. :)
Hate it when OEMs fill the PCs with useless crapware.

My brothers notebook couldent even run simple games cause Vista, Norton and other crappy programs for video playback and such just crippeled the system.

Now its enjoying a clean Windows 7 install with only a codec pack and OpenOffice.
(Linux would be too hard for him to use.)

Does the EULA say contact the seller for a refund, or simply to contact the seller ?

Vista is an OS and Norton a security program. How are they crapware? Seems to me those are the two minimum things you need just to turn on your computer.

But everyone knows Vista really sucked... even Microsoft. And as for security... well not sure if Norton is an antivirus, more a virus. All it seems to do is eat your system resources and never find any viruses (or so my experience has been).

Ever read any of the reviews? Norton has scored pretty high on the lists of security suites of late. In fact, the security software is praised for it's non-intrusive virus scan and detection. Unless, I'm working with HD content, I never even know it's running. It's not perfect in everything (are any?) but it's the best commercial suite I can find.

I'm not a windows hater...I have win7 pro on order for a long time...but Vista really did suck in certain ways, but I think win7 is what they should have done in the first place.

    Norton? it's a virus.....lol

LOL ya norton is a virus was the joke in my computer science class at school.

If you want good security software matousec does great firewall reviews and av-comparatives does awesome security/av suite reviews.
