Anyone got a recommendation for a PCI Wireless Card that works well in Ubuntu? I got a media server that's not on the network right now, but I just upgraded to 7MB internet, Yeah! I'd like to be able to do Hulu and the like if possible. Thanks for any help.

Anything based on an atheros chipset should be good, steer well clear of broadcom. For Ubuntu specifically there is a good index here:

A more general index can be found here:

Thanks. I will check it out.

I have an Atheros in my nettop that doesn't work so well with Ubuntu's network manager for whatever reason.
I'd stick with Intel products. They all work really well in my experience. -
network manager has major issues, with a lot of wireless cards, not just Atheros.

As long as you don't need support for vpn, you can replace network manager with wicd. I wonder if that helps with the Atheros problem?

intel cards seem to have the best support in my experience.

on several laptops i had, I installed ubuntu just fine wireless worked right out of the box after release 8.04
So far i can tell: Realtek works Atheros works and the intel 3945 i had worked too.
My personal choice of use was the Realtek AGN works very well with Ubuntu 9.10 and my DIR-655 Router

I forgot I had this WiFi card laying around and I'm going to try it. I have not used it since Ibex. As I recall, I needed ndiswrapper to get it to work, but I'm hoping it works out of the box with Karmic or Lucid.
