It seems like what ever Ubuntu uses isnt so grand for my wireless connection as it DC's very often and i noticed that when using Mandriva 2008 it worked MUCH better
can anyone explain how to install the network manager from Mandriva and make it work?
    I'd love you =]

Ive been trying to search ubuntu repositories through the web (dont have ubuntu installed) but they dont respond.

What the thing is called is "net_applet", although it could be just a generic thing

Here is a thread in ubuntu forums, its very similar to yours

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=62542

basically it could be called net_applet or netapplet in synaptic, the thread also offers other suggestions

    EDIT:

type this in terminal, if it works then show me some love as promised lol

    sudo apt-get install netapplet

    hehe well
you pointed me in the right direction
    apparently netapplet is already installedd
so all i had to do was download Knetworkmanager rather than Networkmanager
networkmanager has some nice features like auto wired connect but my ethernet connection was fried once whent he power went out
so it auto trying to connect to the wired connection which didnt exist was probably as annoying as trying to use wireless in windows xp =|
but knetwork manager is what i wanted =]
    and thanks for the help!

*networkmanager just manipulates the scripts/files used by ifup/ifdown. you don't actually need a gui. you can keep eth0 from initiating on boot by commenting out 'auth auto' in /etc/network/interfaces.
