I have a Gateway M1617 and i was wondering if I could install leopard/linux onto my laptop.

You can install Linux no problem. Installing OSX is not allowed as it is against the Apple EULA, and NBR will delete any and all posts about that as it is also against forum rules.
-
You can always install Linux and customize it to behave like Leopard, if you're that in to the Mac look! The wallpaper, theme, and icons are extremely easy to duplicate, while the Dock can be imitated with AWN or Cairo dock.
-
Yeah, and this is not the place to ask that anyways; this is the Linux forum, not the Apple forum.
However, as has been mentioned, even the Apple forum is not the place to ask that, since installing the Mac OS on a PC is not kosher.
But, as Bog said, Linux will do the job if you're looking for the look (so to speak), and it's certainly superior to OSuX.

There's also a GTK patch floating around which clones the detached Mac style menu bar.

PM me for info on installing any and all operating systems

When you've installed Linux, take a look at Mac4Lin; link.
" The goal of this project is to bring the user interface of Mac OS X (newest version being 10.5, Leopard) to GNU/Linux and UNIX-System like Operating Systems.
The project is built for GTK -- Anirudh Acharya (a.k.a infra_red_dude) Developer, Mac4Lin".
You can make your distro look like this if you want to;Attached Files:

Wow. That's pretty tricked.
-
Linux is safe, but if you put a leopard on your laptop, you'd better not stand close....I've heard they are dangerous.
-
Thanks, i think ill try to install linux and just do what you guys said and make it look like osx.

I cant find the iso in the ubuntu file i just downloaded that i need to burn to the cd, does any one know which folder it is in?
-
? The ubuntu file is the iso... Unless you downloaded the torrent...
-
If if wasn't a torrent, see where your browser is putting downloaded files in preferences

Just as a tiny comment on this side, as the Apple EULA is mentioned frequently on this forum. Whether OP can legally install OS X on a PC or not depends on his country of residence. E.g., the clause in the EULA that prohibits installation of OS X on non-Apple systems is void under German law, as you can only see the EULA after you already bought the software.
So for some Europeans, OS X on non-Apple hardware is a (perfectly legal) option. -
However, NotebookReview is US site, so it is under the jurisdiction of US law:
TechTarget, Inc. does not wish to place itself in the way of possible litigation, so the administrators request that you do not use the forums to post about topics that could result in that. I think that is very reasonable, considering they are giving us a free place to discuss laptops and other related topics. If you wish to talk about things such as installing OS X on non-Apple hardware, there are plenty of other places online devoted to doing exactly that.Code:# whois notebookreview.com Registrant: TechTarget, Inc. 117 Kendrick Street Suite 800 Needham, MA 02494 US 781-657-1000 Fax:781-657-1100

Futhermore, it's all about the money

Unfortunately for some, you are right that this site falls under US law and we must abide by it.
Please do NOT post about hardware or software that allows OS X to be installed...and I highly encourage users to NOT try this as technically it is illegal in many countries. -
ok, I found out where i went wrong. I extracted the iso. file. Well I burned the iso to a cd a i installed ubuntu and it works great. But i was trying to install the mac theme, but when i install it its doesnt change much at all. Am i doing something wrong?

What wireless chipset do you have?
-
Please, stick to one post on this wireless issue.
Jas has answered in the thread you started on your wireless problem.
Did you follow the information in those links he provided?
If you start cross posting on the same issue, answering questions becomes a royal pita.
Cheers.
