Hi everyone, I am attempting to dual boot my work laptop and just want to get some things straight. I know that when I install Ubuntu it is also going to install the Grub boot loader as well. I just want to make sure that it won't affect me signing on to my domain at work through XP.

I am using Ubuntu installed on a VM in XP right now and want to switch to a dual boot but just want to make sure that grub isn't going to affect me signing in to my domain as I don't want to get my IT involved.

    Thanks

If your work owns that laptop then you should consult the IT department FIRST for permission... I say this because working in IT, having people come to us with their problems because they decided to conduct experiments like this on their own is so frustrating.

Now that that's aside... no, it won't affect you signing onto your domain. GRUB just selects which partition to boot from basically, so once you're past that, it's just like it was prior to the dual boot. Windows sees nothing different and still will connect to your domain a-okay.

I totally understand where you are coming from as I work in Tech Support, I am cool with our IT guys and I know they would fix my mess up without grumbling too much as we go back and forth on favors anyways. Plus out IT is running Ubuntu so I know he would be cool.

Alright I just wanted to make extra sure.

    Thanks
