Hello, I've noticed while using ubuntu 12.04, and now xubuntu, the mouse occasionally stutters/freezes. Some times it's really bothersome. The mouse gets really "floaty", jerks and stutters, it becomes very unusable.
I've been searching to see if anybody else has the same issues, and I'm not coming up with much, and no solutions.
If I log out and back in, it's fine for a little while until it starts again. I'm getting no crash notifications. Where can I start with this issue? Any ideas? I really want to like Xubuntu, but unfortunately this problem gets very problematic at times. In contrast, I do not have these issues at all with ubuntu 10.04.
It must be something in the new kernel, that's all I can think of. It's the same problem in both ubuntu and xubuntu precise.

What hardware and drivers are you using?

It's a heavily customized iso, but using the vanilla drivers (whichever came with it). It's a thinkpad SL410, core 2 duo, 8gb ram, running in live session via thumb drive. Mouse is just a Microsoft usb mouse.
Edit: Ok, I've noticed a couple of things while using it more. First, when the mouse starts stuttering, cpu usage does not spike but stays the same (according to htop).
Secondly, it seems to happen *more often* while opening applications or folders, but it can happen by itself on an empty desktop as well.
Edit 2: As soon as I open a firefox window it goes away. The moment I close it the stutter comes back. I'm starting to wonder if it has something to do with lightdm (the new desktop manager used in all *buntu flavors now).
Ok, I've been running Xubuntu on my Llano notebook, and I'm having no problems with mouse stuttering. Interestingly I notice that when I open a new window, click on the applications menu or use the right click menu to run a program, the process "xfdesktop" causes a momentary cpu spike (around 25%). It seems kind of high. Perhaps that's the problem.
I've got a few other problems with Xubuntu, so now I have to decide if I want to go back to ubuntu 10.04, or finally retire my thinkpad for good. But I notice that the fan definitely runs more frequently with Xubuntu. :\

Ubuntu V12.04 is still running ok in updated VM Player V4.03.
CPU, GPU, audio, video, and Bluetooth mouse all working.
An issue with XBMC Media Center V11 occurred after install.
High CPU utilization, due to the app frame refresh rate and no mouse.
Uninstalled it. This app was the problem.
