Well today after playing some penny arcade, I saw that Ubuntu had a couple of updates to do. I go through them and see nothing that should concern me. After it updates it wants to reboot and I let it. Next time the PC REboots boom, I get all type of errors re-loading the X file and then had to reset to default. At the end I had to un-install the older NVIDIA drivers and then reinstall it. After doing that I am on a working computer. Whatever it installed screwed up my graphics drivers and now my LCD on my G50VT is not working no more. Ill see if I can get that working now. Cant believe a couple of small updates screwed up my pc that much.

The only bright side about all of this, nvidia released new drivers 185.18.29, i believe the older ones where .19 at the end.

Now to going back to get my LCD to start working now.

I got the LCd working again, had to re-follow the process of AllurGroceries to get it installed again. I am somewhat amazed how a couple of small updates did so much damage to the computer. Hmm makes me wonder if I should ignore the updates we get every couple of days.

Wow. I've never had anything screwed up by installing all the recommended updates. Hmmm. I just installed a bunch, and now I'm asked to restart.

Thanks to you, now I'm nervous about this... :p

If memory serves me right some updates to the X windows system have caused problems like this in the past(~1 year ago) with Ubuntu. Not sure if your updates had similar issues.

I think that probably happened because nvidia-glx was installed and got updated, it will overwrite the manually installed drivers because they share the same files. You can either put a hold on the package to prevent it from updating, or better, purge it and then reinstall the drivers manually and you should never have this problem again. :)

you probably enabled unstable repository or I guess you have too many repositories that got you this problem in the first place
