hey guys, i have a gateway t-6836 laptop, it came with vista, and i added ubuntu. The thing is, now i wanna add xp on the laptop as well. Is there any way i can do this without worrying about the whole bootloader crap? maybe a workaround of some sort?

    Thanks. Any help is appreciated.

What "bootloader crap" are you speaking of? It's really not hard to "fix" the bootloader if something happens to it.

well, that's what i'm afraid of. Will anything happen? I've heard things about how installing another operating system will have that bootloader taking over the current one or something like that. Maybe they were wrong. I dont know. I just dont want to risk running into any problems, so i just want to make sure.

You need to do some research and reading. This may help.

been there, done that. but none of them mention anything about the way i installed it first. like i said, i have vista preloaded, then i installed ubuntu. Therefore, my current bootloader is grub. If i install windows xp, will grub still be my bootloader? or will windows xp's bootloader take over? and if it does, will it screw up my OS options? That's really what I'm trying to figure out, that's all. I did my research. If you happen to find a link that I missed, then I'll gladly say I didnt look hard enough and would thank you. But I've spent a while on this, and couldnt find one that had it the way i had it.

So do that? Why do you want to add XP anyway. Seems like a waste of time to me >_>

    Using Safari, eh? :D
Why not run XP in a VM like Sun xVM, Vmware Server, or MS VirtualPC?

I can't uninstall my other OS's though, so I cant do that. As for why, i have my reasons.

Would it have perfect usb compatability as the real thing? And I thought it would be better to have the real thing. iono.

Both Vmware server & xVM have flawless USB support.
I'd recommend xVM under Windows and Vmware Server under linux.
If you need help installing Vmware Server on linux just ask me & I'll link you some instructions.

    crap....another problem.

i was trying to install the xvm one for windows, and i get that "windows installer service could not be accessed" crap message. I went online and looked for all the solutions. i started to see some repeated results, so i assumed i went through them all, including going to the services.msc area, checking for a no-extension msiexec (which i dont have, btw). so i have no clue what's wrong. Any help?
