as the title says...
basically, I'm using MPD to create a little music player that will hook up to the home stereo. MPD is working fine, except for the fact that it refuses to play AAC/mp4 files, which my parents have a significant number of. supposedly this was included in MPD some time ago (v. 0.10.x or something,) and the version included in the feisty repo is 0.12.x. Is the silly thing not compiled with AAC support? I'm having a helluva time finding info on why this is happening.

Has the version of MPD in Feisty been compiled with AAC support? You can use "mpd --version" to check this, IIRC.
While AAC support is technically available, it's a real pain to compile since the FAAD2 libraries have been neglected of late. I tried adding support for AAC last time I compiled MPD (~12 months ago) and eventually gave up...
Also remember that AAC/MP4 support doesn't include FairPlay protected tracks. -
yeah... there's no DRM...
I just set the thing up playing. it's doing its job well enough.
thanks for the info, I'll check on the AAC info when I get it hooked back up to the network to SSH to. -
You also may just have to install the libfaad2 package (just guessing on the name). That's often all it takes to get those functionalities working.

forgot to mention that libfaad2 and libmp4v2 are both installed... no dice

You'll have to compile MPD from source. -
booooo...
okay, fair enough.
anyone have experience with MPD?
