is anyone here running linux on an Indilix based SSD? curious how it's working out for you, and if trim functions are working and how the performance is after running the system for awhile. I'm curious what file systems you're running as well. I'm looking at either running XFS or EXT4 on mine once I receive it, mounting it with the noatime flag.

I am! I am running the ext4 filesystem on the ocz agility series. Unfortunately, the ssd is being held back due to the chipset and the atom processor. I did notice quicker boot time (did not have to put any @ in the rc.conf file) and far more quicker reaction with firefox/thunderbird. No stuttering as of yet.

I also use the openbox's desktop environment with lightweight softwares (less dependencies), so your mileage may varied.

Side note: I upgraded from a 7200 rpm hdd.

I've been thinking about an SSD for my N10J, it'd be cool to know what your throughput is FFZERO, since your NC10 uses the same chipset. If there is no sense in getting an Intel X25 then I will go for the lower throughput drives since it would be bottlenecked anyway. There's an article here about making nice HDTune-looking charts with gnuplot:

Here something I can put together in a short period of time.

Using the one and only hdparm (part of the base system in the arch linux's live cd).

    Writing speed MB/s :
    Test 1

    500000+ records in
    500000+ records out
    4096000000 bytes (4.1 GB) copies, 32.8212 s, 125 MB/s

    real 0m34.176s
    user 0m0.637s
    sys 0m26.208s

    Test 2

    500000+ records in
    500000+ records out
    4096000000 bytes (4.1 GB) copies, 32.9425 s, 124 MB/s

    real 0m34.094s
    user 0m0.590s
    sys 0m26.512s

    Test 3

    500000+ records in
    500000+ records out
    4096000000 bytes (4.1 GB) copies, 32.9503 s, 124 MB/s

    real 0m35.688s
    user 0m0.707s
    sys 0m29.765s

    Reading speed MB/s:
    Test 1

    Timing 0_Direct disk reads: 362 MB in 3.01 seconds = 120.08 MB/sec

    Test 2

    Timing 0_Direct disk reads: 362 MB in 3.02 seconds = 120.03 MB/sec

    Test 3

    Timing 0_Direct disk reads: 362 MB in 3.02 seconds = 120.05 MB/sec

I wish I can copy and paste from xterm or create a log outputting information on the ssd using:

Cool, that's about consistent with the other benchy's I've seen, give or take 5MB/s

Thanks a lot for posting that :)

I was going to wait for the new Intel SSDs but I guess I'll just grab an OCZ on sale or something...

I received my SSD on Wednesday as I was on my way out the door on vacation. Let my girlfriend drive and installed it, installed Ubuntu 9.04, and that is about all I've been able to do. The hotel internet is too cruddy to do much else (I did update the Ubuntu install overnight the other night)

I will do some benches and post back later. I did modify the /etc/fstab file to include the 'noatime' argument for my ext4 formatted /home and / partitions

Add the 'nodiratime' option as well.

done deal. The speed of the drive is quite nice, it boots in about 10 seconds. I ran the hdparm speed test mentioned above, results are below. I plan to load my VM's back onto the machine on Monday, I will see how it does once I have a couple VM's running as well. The 160gb Hitachi 7k160 it replaced came out at 81.87 MB/sec in the same test.

    /dev/sda:
    Timing O_DIRECT disk reads: 588 MB in 3.01 seconds = 195.39 MB/sec
