I have a 11.6 inch dm1-4010. it has AMD Dual-Core E-450, AMD Radeon 6320 graphics, 320 gb hard drive and 8 gb ram. I am thinking about changing the hard drive to a crucial 128gb m4 however performance has been pretty good so far.
I have used redhat ages ago and suse. Im looking for a linux flavor that is fun to use and program c++, python and lua on that can take advantage of the hp hardware i listed. it doesnt have to be ubuntu but I am a beginner so anything that isnt to much to config.

Given that SUSE Enterprise is usually an option on many HP machines, I'd give OpenSUSE (the non-commercial variant of SUSE Enterprise) a try. It's run pretty well on my ProBook in the past, and the default KDE environment is (IMHO) pretty user-friendly out of the box.
