hey all..i went with the suggestion to try to setup Ubuntu. previously had FC5, which i had no idea about anything, but i managed to install that fine on a 10gb partition on a 60gb HD (Xp pro has the other partition of 4xgb).

i downloaded the disc fine, installed fine, but when it goes past the initial install phase, and boots for the first time it hangs at "Starting Hotplug Subsystem" ...i have searched and searched online, and came to figure out that if i hit CTRL+C at the exact moment it tries to load that package, it will skip it..if i do this, everything loads fine but i do not have any sound.

if i dont manage to hit CTRL+C at the right moment, it hangs there and then displays a screen like:

    *random 1 [ok]
    *random 2 [ok]

    all the way to

    *Starting Hotplug Subsystem

and there is nothing there, and nothing happens.

is there anyway that i can boot ubuntu without having to do this each and every time...it is very annoying, since last time i booted to ubuntu..it took me 6 tries until i got CTRL+C at the right moment...

    system specs:

Which version of Ubuntu are you using? Have you tried the latest beta-2? I'm wondering if perhaps it is your wireless network card and I _think_ there's better support in the latest beta. Also, you MAY want to look at noapic and see if that helps matters at all.

Your best bet, though, would be to post your question on the Ubuntu forums. :)

Unless he's added an extra sound card, the Z70Va comes with AC97-compatible sound I think. I'm not sure why Ubuntu would have a problem with that, it works fine on my desktop machine.
