Hello,
I had this issue earlier today and managed to make the dock work after configuring Nvidia to turn off the laptop LCD while using my external monitor
then I've hibernated and came back home now and when i start the laptop and get into ubuntu's lock screen the monitor is turned off because i've configured it earlier, how do i know i'm on lock screen not hanged? i hit enter then enter the password then press Fn F4 or Fn F12 i get into sleep or hibernation mode then start the PC and i get the grub to select an OS from.
I went into windows fine but everytime i get into linux i have this issue.
So till i boot from live CD or USB drive into ubuntuLive and fix the xorg.conf, is there a way to fix this issue?
on my previous W500 i press Fn F7 my screen comes back, but since i'm configured it using Nvidia Fn F7 is no longer takes effect now.
any idea sharing is appreciated for sharing the knowledge purposes![]()
Thanks

Press Ctrl + Alt + F1 and you should be able to get the console (with a login prompt) irrespective of if you're on the locked screen or not. But if the system itself has gone for a toss (i.e. hangs up) you wont see the console.
Ctrl + Alt + Fn (F1 - F6 should get you a separate console each, F7/F8 would usually be the X11 GUI)
If you're able to get the console, it might mean X11 is in a strange state somehow. You can edit the xorg.conf here in the console and if you restart X11 using the following command:
I've had similar problems when I had made an external display as the primary display and I disconnect the external display and my laptop LCD doesnt turn on until I reboot. But it should work after a reboot for sure unless it writes something in xorg.conf which makes it permanent.
Could you elaborate more on what you actually get to edit in xorg.con to get back your display ?
cant have the ThinkPad LCD turn on after docking
