i think linux (or was that OSX? or both?) only creates links/shortcuts to the actual file if you drag&drop.

Yeah, you are just creating a link to the file on the USB drive. You will have to make a copy to your netbook.

I have recently bought a cnm minibook. I have found the user manual near useless to help me get started, and I have no knowledge of Unix/Ubuntu to help me (I am usually a Macintosh user, with a small knowledge of MS Windows XP). The cnm working environment is completely alien to me.
For example, getting linked up to my home network- No.
Copying files from a USB stick- No.
Does anyone know of any resources, free or paid for, that may help to get me going with this little notebook computer? I have tried the cnm website and that is equally unhelpful.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Have you managed to get your minibook to connect to the internet? I can get mine to see my home network, but not to get out to the web. Any tips? I took it to a laptop shop and they could not get it to work either.
