i've been trying to burn a mkv file to watch on a standard dvd player. i've got a 10gb file which outputs to a 2.7gb iso. i tried using the "adjust disc usage" option and i still only get a 3.1gb iso. i'm trying to burn the video to a 8.5gb disc and would like to use all available space. any ideas? it takes two and a half hours for the conversion and i would like a soultion before making another attempt. thanks.

The size depends on the length of the video. What program are you using for conversion of the video and burning? (I'm no linux expert though..)

i'm using devede to convert the mkv file to an iso. then i'm using brasero to burn to iso to dvd.

the file is 10gb, but it's only about 90 minutes long. i haven't burnt it to disc yet... i just assumed that because of the smaller size of the iso, the quality would be degraded somewhat.

Well, the video is going to be downscaled to dvd quality. There is a standard DVD bitrate and the video is something along the lines of 720x480 in MPEG-2.

the thing is, i've also converted a 4.4gb mkv file and the output was a 3.1gb iso. i would have assumed that even with the down scale, a 10gb file would result in a bigger iso. both the 4.4gb and 10gb files are about the same length video wise.

i'm assuming that it has to be an option somewhere in the program, with 3.1gb output being default. i just can't seem to find the option.
