Hi,
just expanding my security a bit, so want to share what i found.
tor (very nice to have & read):
http://www.torproject.org/index.html.en
proxychains:
http://proxychains.sourceforge.net/
nice writeup:
http://tools.rosinstrument.com/howto.htm
Just Q.:
anyone here uses some protections like that? I haven't, but just started. And if anyone does, what experience?

Half of TOR is run by various governments.
IMO if you want to cover your tracks you're better off leeching your neighbor's wifi.

whoa, i like my neighbors .... well mostly

But on a serious note, i don't think "covering your tracks" is necessary unless you are really doing something illegal. And i don't mean illegal as in torrenting mp3s type of stuff. I think people who go to such extents for just regular web browsing are just paranoid - AND all public anonymizers are exactly that - public. You did anything nasty while using their service, they keep the logs, they got your IP, busted. "Anonymous" or not, it's exactly the same thing, and just connecting directly is quite a bit faster. The only use for public proxies is accessing banned websites from school/work/whatever.
True anonymity isn't possible on the internet, if you are a paranoid type of guy just try your best not to attract attention and everything will be fine... If you really do need to hide your a**, be sure you won't learn it on a forum. -
We can leech the Ritz across the street.....sucks though when I can't get kids to sleep and pull the router, they just connect to the Ritz....I'm talking WoW here....LOL !
do you cover your tracks on inet?
