will unetbootin just add the image or install the actual OS?

UNetbootin should take the .ISO image that you downloaded and install it directly onto the USB stick, instead of going through the regular installer. It should result in your USB stick being bootable and eeebuntu installed.

well, it pretty much sort of unpacked the image into the drive, only now the icon for the drive was the ubuntu logo. the eee wouldn't boot from it. but i had tried earlier to download and install the version of puppy that is default on unetbootin, and that didn't work either. and when i tried an install earlier from the disc, it wouldn't recognize my flash drive anymore (what a mess this is...) maybe i need to find a different computer with a disc drive to try it with.

That howto guide that I linked to is specifically for the Eee, so make sure to read that carefully

I have a question about Dual Booting. I've been able to put Ubuntu 8.09 and Ubuntu Netbook Remix on pen drives ( https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromImgFiles), boot and even install from them. I heard that it is now possible to put Windows 7 on a usb and boot from it. Last night I saw this this article ( http://icrontic.com/articles/install-windows-7-from-usb-using-windows-xp) and was able to install Windows 7 on a pen drive. As of now I have yet to try on a USB bootable PC.
But what my question is has anyone been able to put both Linux and Windows on a USB? And before I get the "why you want windows?" speach. This is for IT purposes.
Thanks
dual boot, on a flash drive?
