After updating Ubuntu to 8.04 my font has been messed up and I really don't have time to go through and try out each one. Which one would you guys recommend for someone using the dark Slickness theme with a WSXGA+ res on a 15.4" inch screen on a T61? When it comes to fonts on word processors I can manage but Linux pretty much has me lost.

Yup, but still, great font ;)
Lucida Grande is my All-Time Fav. though.

hmmm.. I don't see any of those you mentioned, its under the appearance menus if you right click the desktop.

Anyways, I think I found a font I like so far, its Metal. I'll just ctrl + if I find things hard to read I guess.

Btw, I found the new zoom works a lot better under firefox 3. Rather then just making text bigger it makes everything bigger.

    No, just get the .ttf.
    Open nautilus and go to:
    Code:
    font://

Oh, btw, I use Tahoma - the UI font on Windows XP. You might want to check that one out too.

Segoe UI does look good, but I've got a new favourite.

Myriad Pro and Myriad Pro SemiCondensed.

They look great on LCD screens

I use Verdana in window titles as well as in my GTK theme. Looks neat to me ;-)

BTW, it's not just the font itself, it's your antialiasing/hinting/other fontconfig settings that affect how good the font will look, especially on an LCD screen.

You can install all of MS's core fonts by adding the Medibuntu servers to your repository:

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu

    Then:

    sudo apt-get update

To update your list of packages. Then, search for "Microsoft fonts"
