    hey guys.

i did an installation of 7.10 and everything is super smooth. One thing that irritates me though, and forces me to have to use vista still is the fact that i have no sound.

i did a check and i have a intel sound card, and sound works in vista, so that means there something wrong in my ubuntu. I've been searching for the past 3 hours on ubuntuforums and no one there has posted anything that has worked so far :(

can you guys give me some help to get my sound back?

    search for this in synaptics:

    backports-modules

    choose the one without numbers.

    then reboot.

What laptop do you have ? If you can post this info it would be easier to help you out, Intel sound card is too general. If it's not a laptop, could you post what motherboard model you have ?

I had the same problem with Ubuntu Gutsy on my Sony TZ130 (with Intel HDA sound). I followed a howto on the Ubuntuforums that had be download the latest alsa stuff (drivers, library and utils) then compile them. In the end, it worked just fine. If you look at
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/Lenovo3000N100_0768

and scroll down the the section on Sound, that is what I did.

Unfortunately, there were some other rough edges with Gutsy that led to to retreat to Feisty for a while.
